Local volunteer firefighters have been called to the scene of a plane crash in the Bonfield area.

One source tells BayToday.ca that the plane is believed to have crashed into a home or building after it collided with another plane near Talon Lake.

One plane was reportedly able to safely land while the other crashed.

Another source believes there may be a concern of a brush fire caused by the crash.

Police, firefighters, and multiple ambulances are assembled along Pine Lake Road.

The OPP announced early this afternoon that one person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

"The aircraft went down into the bush area approximately 100 metres from Talon Lake in Rutherglen Township, Ontario," stated OPP Constable Jennifer Smith in a release.

The OPP Forensic Identification Services, the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) and the Office of the Chief Coroner- Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-FPS) have been notified and are assisting with this investigation.

BayToday will update the story as more information becomes available.
