People foolishly ignoring the "bridge closed" signs

This bridge is under repair, yet people are still trying to cross it. Submitted.

The wood deck of the La Vase River bridge on the Kate Pace Way has been removed, but members of the public are foolishly ignoring the bridge closed signs, walking around the fencing, and crossing the bridge on the beams, much to the concern of the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority.

“It’s dangerous and they need to stay off the bridge," said Sue Buckle, NBMCA Manager of Communications. "People are walking and carry bikes across the bridge frame.  We’re going to have to erect more fencing and additional signage to try to stop people who are putting themselves at risk,”

It’s a popular path, well used by walkers and cyclists.

"The work needs to get done now while the contractor and supplies are available. We’ll have it back in operation as soon as possible, but in the meantime please respect the fencing and signs and stay off the bridge structure,” she added.

Kate Pace Way is closed between Lakeshore Dr. and Decaire Rd during construction.
