Patriot Golf Day underway

Patriot Golf Day (PGD) is in full swing today as civilians and 22 Wing military members tee off this morning at Osprey Links Golf Course.

Money raised during PGD events all across Canada will go to the True Patriot Love Foundation (TPLF), which supports and honours members of the Canadian military and their families.

This year PGD is bigger yet as more courses participate across the nation.

“I wish to thank the sponsors of the event the Professional Golf Association (PGA) for recognizing our commitment to Canada both at home and abroad, and my sincere thanks for the patriotism the golfers are showing today in supporting those soldiers, sailors, airmen and airwomen and their families," said Colonel Conrad Namiesniowski, 22 Wing Commander.

"Our families may not have volunteered to serve but they do, through every training course, posting or deployment and the PGA’s donation to the TPL foundation recognizes that supporting military members means also supporting their families.”

Last year as a result of the event, 22 Wing was fortunate to receive a $70,000 grant from the TPLF to fund its family medical clinic, which supports over 290 military members’ families and veterans in the area, for a total of 1,200 patients. Recently the foundation advised 22 Wing that they accepted the wings’ application for a grant renewal and the clinic has received an additional $70,000 to continue its operations for another year.

Established in 1911, the PGA of Canada is the second oldest and third largest professional golf association in the world.

The PGA of Canada is a non-profit Association comprised of 3,800 golf professionals across the country.

The Association’s mandate is to develop, promote and support our Members as experts in the game and business of golf and, in so doing, serve both its Members’ needs and those of the golfing public through the Association’s varied programs and events.

The Association consists of the National Office located in Acton, Ont., and nine Zone Offices across the country.

The True Patriot Love Foundation is a national foundation that supports and honours members of the Canadian military and their families.

It was founded by a group of citizens dedicated to building bridges between Canadian civilians and their military, in order to better understand and appreciate the sacrifices of soldiers and their families.
