Parry Sound OPP arrests its 25th impaired driver of 2019

It's not a milestone police want to hit, but the West Parry Sound OPP has arrested its twenty-fifth impaired driver of 2019.

On June 9, police were on patrol in Parry Sound and shortly after 2:30 a.m. they stopped a vehicle after it stayed for a prolonged time at a stop sign, then entered a dead end street. 

Police determined that the driver had consumed alcohol.

George Sykes, 20, from Seguin Township, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80),,
  • Fail to surrender insurance card, and
  • Novice driving - B.A.C. above zero.

Sykes was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear in court in Parry Sound on July 4.

The driver's licence and vehicle were impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired
