On the 6th of February, the North Bay Police Service received information that a male who was wanted on outstanding warrant for taking a motor vehicle without consent and uttering threats and that he was possibly in North Bay.


The Street Crime Unit conducted an investigation and at approximately 11:45 pm, the accused was observed by police officers operating a motor vehicle and entering the rear parking lot of a Clarence Street apartment building.


A short time later the accused exited the rear of the building and was approached by officers who advised him that he was under arrest, at which time he broke free from the officers engaged in a foot pursuit through interconnecting parking lots of the adjoining buildings.


The accused was arrested.


A search incident to arrest and further investigation by police found the accused to also be in possession of one gram of a substances believed to be crack cocaine and 4 grams of a substance believed to be marihuana along with the possession of a Savage Model 1907 32 caliber semi-automatic pistol to which a query made revealed was a stolen firearm from the North Bay area in 1961.


Michael Hansen, 31yrs, of Ottawa is charged with Resisting Arrest, 3 counts of Breach of Recognizance, 2 counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Restricted Firearm, Unsafe Storage of a Firearm, Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Crime, Possession of Stolen Property.


He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
