It was a good year for Mattawa Voyageur Days.

That’s according to Co-Chair Lucie Desrochers who says attendance numbers increased which was good news for the future of the summer music festival.

“A little over 18,000 for attendance,” Desrochers told Rogers Radio about the event that took place July 27th to 29th in Mattawa.

“Last year was lower by about 4,000 and the bigger number means more traffic on the festival grounds.”

Desrochers believes the weather and new events helped bring those attendance numbers up.

“The weather definitely cooperated with us so it was phenomenal, our added events during the day, the people truly enjoyed it,” she said.

“The lumberjack show and the water sports demo on the Mattawa River so that was greatly attended and that is probably why our numbers are up this year.  People were attracted to what we had to offer this year.”

Although Desrochers will not predict the future of the event with a new council coming in this fall, she believes the event will continue.

“Don’t be surprised there will be another one with all the feedback we are getting,” she said.

“It sure sounds like it is going to happen again.”

That decision will be made by the next town council.
