North Bay Regional Health Centre is one of 27 hospitals recognized by the Trillium Gift of Life Network.
It is Ontario’s organ and tissue donation and transplant agency.
The award is for outstanding efforts to integrate donation into quality end-of-life care. Today, more than 1,500 people in Ontario are on the transplant waitlist, and every three days someone dies waiting due to a lack of available organs.
North Bay won the Provincial Conversion Rate Award for meeting or exceeding the target conversion rate of 58 per cent set by Trillium Gift of Life Network. The conversion rate is the percentage of potential organ donors (patients who die in a hospital setting and are deemed medically suitable for donation) who went on to become actual donors.
