East Ferris Township – The North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) want to inform the public of a suspicious person incident that occurred on Derland Road in the Municipality of East Ferris on Saturday October 13, 2012.

At approximately 10:30 am, a 7 and 10 year old child were playing in the front yard of a residence when a black vehicle pulled into the drive way. A male driver, described by the children as “older” rolled his window down and asked if anyone was home at the house. The male then asked the kids to come closer to the vehicle and then exited his vehicle to talk to the kids. The children, being very astute went to their residence and told their mother. As mom came to the door to check on the situation, she saw the vehicle drive away, eastbound on Derland Rd.

The best description available is that it is a black car, and most probably a Mazda 3 with tinted windows. The children believed the licence plate started with the letter “B” and that the man was wearing beige. Officers flooded the area at the time, making several vehicle stops, but no one was located matching the description.

The OPP are asking the public to be aware of this incident and remind children of the possible dangers relating to strangers. If anyone has any information, or if a similar vehicle is observed, to please contact the OPP immediately. Do not approach the vehicle, simply attempt to note the licence plate number along with any other identifying marks on the vehicle – such as rust, stickers etc…
