OPP just confirmed in a news release that there has been a fatality due to today's flooding and washouts in East Algoma.
They announced that at approximately 7:00am today (September 10, 2013)the East Algoma Thessalon Ontario Provincial Police detachment responded to a a single motor vehicle collision in Plummer Additional Township.
The report indicates that a 57 year old male was travelling southbound on Duff Road when his motorcycle entered a large washout.
And as a result of the collision 57 year old Christopher Flood succumbed to his injuries at the Thessalon Hospital.
They confirm time of day and lighting on Duff Road were factors in the collision.

There have been dozens of road closure announcements due to the flooding and road washouts including a report from OPP about a motor vehicle was swept away down a sinkhole in the roadway early this morning.
The two occupants managed to get out of the vehicle and climb up an embankment and were rescued by emergency personnel.
Both occupants received non-life threatening injuries.

Due to the severe thunderstorms earlier this morning, the
Sault Ste. Marie Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police reported several road closures due to flooding and washouts.
Road closures North of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:
Highway 552 east is closed between the intersection of Highway 556 and Kirby’s Corners.
Highway 556 is closed between Highway 17 and Bellevue Valley Road.
Searchmont residents are being diverted down Bellevue Valley Road onto Highway 552 to Highway 17.
Kelly Creek Road in Goulais River is closed.
Thielman Road in Goulais River is closed.
Mission Road is closed west of the 2400 block.
Road closures East of the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario:
Highway 638 is closed at the junction of Highway 17.
Bar River Road in Bar River is closed.
Cemetery Road is closed.
Pioneer Road (between Watson’s Road and Highway 638) is closed.
OPP remind motorists to use caution when driving on area roadways as a number of roadways remain underwater and some bridges impassable.
Keep children away flooded areas as conditions can change very quickly.

OPP report there are currently several emergency services and road crews on scene at each location dealing with the road conditions.
