OPP report 911 interruption in East Ferris Area (update: restored)

The North Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are notifying residents of the Municipality of East Ferris that their phone and 911 service has been restored.

Phone lines and 911 capabilities were disabled during the afternoon of the 9th of May 2014 due to weather related issues.

Bell Canada technicians completed repairs and services were restored at approximately 8:30 p.m. that evening.

The North Bay OPP sent out a notice that as of 5:30pm Friday phone and 911 systems are down in the Municipality of East Ferris, specifically the area of Astorville.

Officials say Bell Canada technicians are working to rectify the issue however, it is unknown at this time how long the service interruption will last.

They note that cellular phone service for the East Ferris area has not been effected and residents can reach the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or *OPP on their cellular device.

They also note that East Ferris Fire Department will be on stand-by at the Astorville Fire Hall until the issue is resolved.

Meanwhile, members of the OPP will be in the East Ferris on patrol and at the Astorville Fire Hall to assist members of the public.
