OPP remind the public that driving an ATV is a privilege

ALMAGUIN HIGHLANDS - Driving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) is a privilege and the Almaguin Highlands Ontario Provincial Police would like to remind drivers to exercise safety when travelling the streets and trails.

Always wear protective gear, especially a helmet. Helmets are mandatory when driving an ATV and head injuries may be prevented by wearing a proper helmet. When selecting a helmet, make sure the helmet is certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and or the Snell Memorial Foundation. Failure to wear a proper helmet may result in a fine of $110

Police would also like to remind motorists that ATV’S are designed to carry only one person, even if their ATV has a second seat installed. Drivers must be able to shift their weight freely in all directions depending on their terrain and weather conditions. Drivers that carry passengers on Municipal Roads may be fined $110 under the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

Always think safety first and remember not to drink and drive.
