OPP recover body on the French River

OPP News Release ******************** ALBAN – On the afternoon of July 7, 2012 a group of males who were camping on the French River went out swimming. The group of five attended an area called Gibraltar Rock. Gibraltar Rock is a shear rock face.

ALBAN – On the afternoon of July 7, 2012 a group of males who were camping on the French River went out swimming. The group of five attended an area called Gibraltar Rock.

Gibraltar Rock is a shear rock face.

One male jumped off the escarpment and did not resurface.

The friends searched the area and called police.

The OPP marine unit attended 18 Mile Bay on the French River to search for the missing man.

The search continued through the night.

On July 8 the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit attended and located the body of the 22 year old missing man.

The OPP does not suspect foul play.

Alcohol was not a factor in this incident.

The OPP would like to remind the public to take precautions when swimming in unfamiliar areas.

Know your surroundings and use safety equipment.
