OPP officer faces alcohol and drug charges

A 13 year veteran of the OPP has been charged after refusing to provide a breath sample.

A 13 year OPP veteran faces multiple charges after a car accident near Barrie August 7th.

Police say around 4 p.m., officers from the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment were called to a single motor vehicle collision that had occurred on 9th Line in the area of 10th Side Road in Essa Township near Barrie. 

An investigation found that the driver had been drinking alcoholic beverages and during a subsequent search of the vehicle, a quantity of suspected marijuana was located and seized. 

As a result of the investigation, 37 year old Matthew Chorny has been charged with:

  • Care or Control While Impaired by Alcohol
  • Fail or Refuse to Provide a Sample, 
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis Marijuana under 30 grams
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance – Cannabis resin – over 1 gram,

Chorny is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on September 8.  He is a constable stationed out of General Headquarters in Orillia.
