OPP arrests speeding impaired driver

Yesterday evening Powassan OPP officers stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 11 in Powassan.  

After speaking to the driver, officers detected an odour of alcohol on his breath. The driver was arrested and taken to the North Bay OPP Detachment for breath tests. The tests revealed that he had over the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

Richard McQuarrie, 21, of Oro-Medonte Township, near Barrie, has been charged with:

  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol

  • Driving with More Than 80 mg of Alcohol in Blood

  • Speeding and

  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Liquor Readily Available 

McQuarrie was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. 

He was released on a Promise to Appear and Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay, on March 6.
