Opinion: A pre-engineered arena a better choice?

Dear Councillors and Taxpayers,

As a taxpayer too, one always like to get the most bang for our buck and hope our elected and appointed officials spend our money wisely. I put this to question with the decision over the two new ice surfaces.  Granted they may look pretty, but any design-build should. There are alternatives to architects and designers, and alternative pricing options too!

As a representative of pre-engineered design company, I had knocked on North Bay City Hall doors for over five years, talked and met to folks making the decisions along the way, yet shut out from looking at our option which would have cost approximately half of your ultimate bill. Yes, that’s right HALF!

See: New community centre and arena to cost between $30 million to $32.5 million

We at Sprung have built single and double pads including athletic stadiums across the country. We are Calgary based with over 12,000 structures under our belt, and in some of the coldest climates in the world.  We built an arena in Collingwood, which none of your staff visited, after numerous invites.

YouYube: Collingwood arena / pool

So enjoy your elected representatives' spending of $30 to $32 Million, we would have been half that price, built quicker, less of a footprint on that soil, airtight, much more environmentally friendly and just as appealing, if not more so.

So enjoy your spoils, you paid for it, much more!
