Open Letter: Preserving the Dionne Homestead

Should the building be relocated to the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa/Gatineau, as recently suggested by Mr. Tarini, spokesperson for the surviving Quints, we wish to reiterate and honour our pledge of $10,000.

We wish to take this opportunity to express our appreciation and gratitude at the recent initiative taken by Jeff Fournier and the outpouring of support by the community, the 600 people who have signed the petition and growing, in their efforts to further the recognition and interest of preserving the Dionne Homestead and its related collection.

This has been our heartfelt intention since embarking with our own proposal that was made public, one year ago. We also wish to also extend our compassion and concern for Cécile and Annette Dionne who recently voiced their sentiments and their encouragement to preserve what the Dionne Family have had to experience and endure in the world's eye.

It has always been our hope to find a positive and constructive outcome that would see to the continued conservation and safe keeping of this world-wide historic artifact and the mutual goal to honour the contribution, memory and sacrifice of the Dionne’s.

Should the building be relocated to the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa/Gatineau, as recently suggested by Mr. Tarini, spokesperson for the surviving Quints, we wish to reiterate and honour our pledge of $10,000, as presented in our original proposal to accomplish this goal.

It continues to be our conviction that this significant historic building, and the artifacts of the Dionne Quint collection, be conserved for all Canadians, present and future, in dignity and respect to which this family persevered. We feel that at the very least, we have a responsibility to ensure that this happens.

A heartfelt thanks to everyone who have supported and encouraged us to honour the contribution, memory and sacrifice of the Dionne family.

Respectfully, Roch Legros and Russell Robinson.
