Work continues on a new building at Ontario Northland. Further information is contained in the following news release issued by the ONR:

Construction is underway on Ontario Northland’s new painting facility. The building, located at Ontario Northland’s North Bay shop complex at 915 McIntyre Street East, is being constructed to accommodate the increase in business resulting from the GO Transit contract.

“This new building is tangible evidence of the positive activity currently taking place at the Ontario Northland,” said Steve Carmichael, Acting President of Ontario Northland. “We are very excited and anxious to get the painting facility up and running as it will allow us to complete high quality paint jobs that will exceed GO Transit expectations.”

The new $3 million painting facility is a two bay, state-of-the art building that will be able to accommodate the size of any rail car currently in operation in North America. Construction on the facility began in early-October and is expected to be completed by mid-December.

Ontario Northland was awarded an $81 million GO Transit contract to refurbish up to 121 commuter cars in February, 2004. Work on the first five commuter cars has already begun and will continue over the next several months.
