One new COVID case reported today

With the increase in the number of vaccines being administered across the district, the Health Unit is working on a model where dose information would be updated daily

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit reports one new case today, somebody in the 60-79 age bracket.

There are now just four active cases, all in Nipissing. It brings to 290 the total number of cases since the pandemic began. The region is in the yellow - protect zone.

On Thursdays, the Health Unit updates the number of doses of vaccine that have been administered in the district. With the increase in the number of vaccines being administered across the district, the Health Unit is working on a model where dose information would be updated daily, it said today.

The Timiskaming Health Unit reports 12 active cases. The region is in the red - control.

The Sudbury Health Unit reports another 32 cases today, with a total of 344 active cases. The region is in the grey - lockdown zone.

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit reports 32 new cases, with 459 active cases. The total number of cases has now reached 7,658.

To date 788 SMHU cases have been tested positive for the COVID-19 variant of concern UK B.1.1.7 (UK), 18 cases have tested positive for the P.1 variant of concern (Brazil), 1 case has tested postive for the B.1.351 variant of concern (South Africa) and an additional 425 cases have screened positive (awaiting confirmatory testing).

In northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 287 cases, rate of 221.2 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 289 cases. There are five known active cases. There have been five confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 27 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are 22 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet.
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 125 cases, rate of 382.4 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 127 cases. There are 12 known active cases. There has been eight confirmed cases of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are five tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet.
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,387 cases, rate of 696.9 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,397. There are 335 known active cases. There are five confirmed UK (B.1.1.7) variants of concern. There are 395 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet.
  • Algoma Public Health: 229 cases, rate of 200.1 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 228 cases. There are 10 known active cases. One test has screened positive for a variant of concern but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the yellow - protect zone.
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 350 cases, rate of 419.5 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 352 cases. There are six known active cases. There have been two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are three tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the yellow- protect zone.
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 674 cases, rate of 768.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 678. There are 35 known active cases. There has been one confirmed case of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant. There are six tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the red - control zone. 
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 2,810 cases, rate of 1,873.8 per 100,000 people.  The health unit has reported 2,826 cases. There are 199 known active cases. There are four tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the grey - lockdown level.

Public Health Ontario has reported 2,336 new cases of COVID-19 today (March 30).

Today's report includes 1,477 recoveries and 14 new deaths.  

One of the deaths reported today was an individual between 40 and 59 years old, eight were between 60 and 79 years old, and six were over the age of 79. This breakdown includes one death reported yesterday without age information.

Four of the people who died were residents of long-term-care facilities.

The province has reported 84 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 11 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The March 30 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 19,810 active cases, which is up from 18,965 yesterday
  • 1,090 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 841 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 387 COVID patients in intensive care units (up from 382 yesterday) and 249 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 236 reported yesterday)
  • The province reported 36,071 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 6.2 per cent positivity rate.
  • Another 35,066 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 12.4 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 2,336 new cases reported today, 727 are from Toronto, 434 cases are from Peel, 229 are from York Region, and 39 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
  • There are 57 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 43 at retirement homes, and 33 at hospitals. 
  • The new cases reported today include 496 individuals aged 19 and under, 789 people between 20 and 39 years old, 664 people between 40 and 59 years old, 328 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 55 people aged 80 and over.

Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)

  • 1,800 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7). 
  • 69 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
  • 90 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil. 
  • Another 20,117 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet sequenced.
  • According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.

Vaccines

  • There were 70,645 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on March 29, which is down from 50,453 administered on March 28. 
  • As of 6 p.m. on March 29, the province reported 2,102,380 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 313,889 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 347,570 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 320,409 recoveries and 7,351 deaths, of which 3,897 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,338.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 93.6 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 26.3 per cent from last week (March 14-20).
