Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) alerted students of the following statement earlier today via their facebook page:
To all Nipissing University and Canadore College students,
Over the last year, your Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU) and Canadore Students Representative Council (CSRC) executives have been working to improve student experience and make student life at both institutions our top priority. We have determined that reorganizing the outdated Joint Student Executive Council (JSEC) structure, which exists between NUSU and CSRC, is an important step in improving both of our operations.
JSEC is a partnership between NUSU-CSRC that operated some services in the Student Centre including The Wall, Pals and Pita Pizza. To improve the accountability of these operations, NUSU and CSRC have collectively decided to dissolve the JSEC structure and instead operate services both independently and collaboratively. For example, NUSU and CSRC will continue to collaborate on Frosh Week.
The new model will alleviate the transparency and accountability concerns for both represented students and our respective institutions, and allow us to be in compliance with the Not-For-Profit Corporations Act, 2010.
This restructuring will impact some operations including The Wall, Pals and Pita Pizza. Our goal will be to introduce changes over the summer to reduce the impact of the restructuring by the fall. We have, unfortunately, determined that there will be an impact on full-time staffing levels at our operations. We are working to support our employees through this transition. Please know that these decisions have not been made lightly. All changes are being made with our members as the primary focus and we are working to make sure that any impact on students is minimized. As your elected student representatives, our #1 priority is to support you, our members. We look forward to sharing more updates throughout the summer.
Thanks for your support.
