A handful of local players and North Bay Battalion players are gearing up for American Hockey League camps as the #1 farm league for the National Hockey League looks to start playing in February.

We told you last week about Colton Point, who was with the Dallas Stars and now with the AHL's Texas Stars. Also, Luke Moncada is on a Personal Tryout Agreement with the Cleveland Monsters.

Battalion winger Brandon Coe, drafted in the fourth round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the San Jose Sharks, will be joining their AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracudas for their training camp.

Battalion forward Mason Primeau, a 2019 fifth round selection of the Vegas Golden Knights, is heading to the Henderson Silver Knights AHL training camp.

Meantime BayToday has been told that North Bay native and Memorial Cup winning goaltender Ken Appleby, will be heading to play goal with the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers this season. The Tigers are the affiliate team for the New York Islanders.

Local defenceman and 2015 Battalion first-round selection Brady Lyle, is expected to join the Providence Bruins for the start of their training camp.

Lyle, who put up 65 points from the blueline with the Owen Sound Attack in 2019-20, is currently skating on loan with HC Detva in the Slovakian Pro League where he has registered one goal and two assists for three points in six games.
