The Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board is pleased to announce the results of the 2011-2012 EQAO Grade 3, 6, and 9 provincial assessments, as outlined in the chart below. The Board experienced increases in Grade 3 Writing and Reading, Grade 6 Reading, Writing and Mathematics, and Grade 9 Academic Mathematics.

In Grade 3 Writing, 70 per cent of students performed at or above the provincial standard, up one per cent from last
year.

Grade 3 Reading has shown a one per cent increase, with 58 per cent of students performing at or above the provincial standard.

In Grade 6 Reading, 74 per cent of students performed at or above the provincial standard of 75 per cent, up eight per cent from last year.

A six per cent increase in Grade 6 Writing has brought the Board’s achievement level to 72 per cent. A three per cent increase in Grade 6 Mathematics has brought the Board’s
achievement level to 51 per cent.

In Grade 9 Academic Mathematics, the Board experienced an eight per cent increase with 82 per cent of students performing at or above the provincial standard.

Highlights:

1. Grade 3 Writing – third consecutive year of increase.

2. Grade 6 Reading and Writing – third consecutive year of increase.

3. Grade 6 Reading - increased by eight per cent.

4. Grade 6 boys – results increased by two per cent overall from last year.

Along with a continued focus on Reading and Writing, the 2012-13 Board improvement plan will focus on a K-12
strategy to improve achievement in mathematics.

Meeting the needs of all students is the most important priority at NPSC, and will continue to be achieved through the use of technology for learning, sound classroom practice and effective school leadership.
