Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming, on behalf of the Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State for Science and Technology, and FedNor, and Minister responsible for the Ring of Fire, today announced an investment by the Harper Government to help strengthen Northern Ontario’s agriculture, agri-food and equine industries.

“The Harper Government is proud to help create jobs and stimulate economic growth in all sectors of Northern Ontario’s economy, while positioning the region for sustainable long-term prosperity.” said MP Aspin.

“By supporting a major exhibit at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, our Government is helping Northern Ontario equine, agricultural and food producers grow their businesses by showcasing their products and services to consumers, industry representatives and potential investors at one of the largest agriculture fairs in the world.”

FedNor funding of $374,346, provided through the NECO Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC), will be used to showcase Northern Ontario products at the 2013 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair in Toronto. Celebrating its 91st anniversary this fall, the Royal attracts approximately 330,000 visitors each year.

“We are proud to partner with FedNor and the Government of Canada to once again establish the highly successful Northern Ontario Pavilion at the Royal Winter Fair,” said Juanita Allan, Chair, NECO CFDC.

“This important initiative has helped countless Northern Ontario businesses to increase sales, create consumer awareness, establish industry contacts and grow their operations by capitalizing on opportunities in Southern Ontario markets.”

The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that strengthen community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.

"Our Government remains focused on providing the right environment for economic growth, through effective cooperation across all sectors, to keep Canadians working and to ensure the long-term prosperity of all our communities," concluded Minister Rickford.
