North Bay Sign Wars message is spreading

'It is free advertising, it is cheap and easy and it is fun so we want all our members to be doing it'

What started out with less than 30 members two days ago has now exploded to more than 2700.

Yes, Sign Wars has really captivated North Bay as dozens of businesses have gotten in on the act that started on Wednesday at Cecil's Brewhouse and Kitchen.

Sign Wars, which apparently got its start in the southern United States, has since spread to Ontario and now right here in northern Ontario.

What started at the restaurant has now been picked up by churches, bars, restaurants, auto parts stores, schools, and hardware stores to name a few.

"It is great, there has been too much seriousness, too many depressing days, too many bad stories that this is just a great way for the community to come together," said Peter Chirico, President and CEO at the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce.

It is what it is and we may as well have a couple of laughs as we are going along. The creative ideas, the creative slogans that are coming out of this are just tremendous. I hope it keeps going and we have a chance to entertain ourselves a little bit and have some fun with our business community.

With so many people following the Sign Wars, Chirico believes it is a great way for local businesses to receive some free exposure.

"It is free advertising, it is cheap and easy and it is fun so we want all our members to be doing it," he said.

"We want the entire community to be doing it and be involved in this because it is a great diversion from where we are."
