The North Bay Regional Health Centre is reporting that the facility currently has five COVID-19 patients in the hospital.

Previously the hospital has reported it has been taking transfer patients from both southern Ontario and Manitoba.

Kim McElroy, Manager of Communications at the local hospital says they continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation locally.

While some Toronto area hospitals are closing COVID-19 wards, McElroy says North Bay is not there yet.

"Our Health Centre continues to assess the impact of changing case counts or upticks and will adjust operations as needed," said McElroy in an email to BayToday.

"Despite our high internal acuity and volume, we are always ready to support other hospitals by accepting transfers."

On its website, the hospital notes it is still temporarily delaying some surgeries and procedures.

"This action is being taken to preserve health system capacity and help to ensure Ontario’s health care system can continue to meet the needs of critically ill patients and is in line with Directive #2," the hospital stated on its site.

"The NBRHC will continue to perform emergency and urgent surgeries and procedures, such as trauma and cancer."

The hospital is also still limiting patient visitors.

"Each inpatient may have one dedicated care partner (plus a designated alternate) for the patient’s length of stay between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. or 5 and 8 p.m. (only one entry and one exit each day)," the hospital stated on its site.
