More than 3,000 people are helping make North Bay Clean, Green and Beautiful.

Since the litter-free campaign launched back in early May, about 250 teams of people have formed and helped pick up trash around town.

Their lofty goal is to make North Bay litter free by the fall of 2019.

Engagement Committee Member Hariett Madigan says big groups, companies and businesses are all getting involved and the results are visible.

She is pleased with the overwhelming response.

“Yes, people are commenting, and a lot of people are going the next step and they are planting trees or they’re beautifying their property in some way,” she told Roger Radio.

“We haven’t asked for that, our focus has been to be litter-free, which is a foundational piece to beautification.”

Madigan says they have a specific focus this month.

“We’re asking people to identify hot spots, places where there is an awful lot of litter. We will do our best to get there and clean up that mess,” she says.

People can report the hot spot to cleangreenbeautiful.com or they’re encouraged to pick up litter themselves, too.

Bags are available at various locations including:

  • North Bay Mattawa Conservation Authority, 15 Janey Ave, 9 am to 4 pm
  • Heritage Gardeners Office, 245 Oak St East, 9 am to 4 pm
  • North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, 205 Main St. East, 9 am to 4 pm
  • The FARM, 154 Main West, 10 am to 5 pm
  • Ferris Home Hardware, Nipissing Plaza, 10 to 6 pm

Madigan says it takes a whole community to be Clean, Green and Beautiful.

“There’s a sense of belonging that goes with that, we all have an investment in being a beautiful city,” she said.
