Independent Publisher online magazine has named a book about North Bay's carousel as one of its Top 10 for 2004.

North Bay Heritage Carousel, written by Patty Fedeli and edited by Edna Scott, with photography by Ed Eng and design by Richard M. Ference, made the list as the best corporate branding book.

"The people who put this book together did a beautiful job designing it, and the photographs are just wonderful,” said Independent Publisher editor Jim Barnes, during an interview from his Traverse City, Michigan office.

“This seems like it was a real community effort and also a lot of fun for the people involved it it.”

Barnes said Independent Publisher's mission over the last 22 years has been to recognize and encourage the work of independent authors, artists and publishers.

"We applaud those who are out there on the front lines producing what it takes to get noticed and impressing readers in a world of superstores and publishing conglomerates," Barnes said.

"This year’s 10 outstanding books were chosen for exemplifying this kind of courage, creativity, andindependent spirit."

Each will receive a $500 cash award. The award ceremony is being held Friday at an international book exposition in Chicago.
