For the second summer in a row, the North Bay Bulldogs senior football team will be left on the sidelines.
That's because on the weekend the Northern Football Conference announced it is cancelling the summer senior football season.
"We are simply realizing that the provincial restrictions will likely not be lifted to allow full-contact tackle football," Marc Mathon, Bulldogs president stated in an email to BayToday.
However, Mathon says the league is restructuring and may look to offer its clubs the ability to take part in non-contact football.
"At the moment, our membership from across the province are all in different colour-coded COVID-19 restrictions levels and there is no certainty as to which Clubs will be in centres that are able to accept visiting teams from other centres," explained Mathon.
"We will have measures in place for those clubs that can play each other in non-contact football to have games. The Provincial restrictions are so unpredictable we could have 4 clubs one week, then 8 the next then 3 two weeks later.
"So a formal season is unlikely. But we will provide the best service we can to our clubs to provide a path to return to play."
Mathon is hoping to provide youth programming again this summer through the popular Bulldogs minor football program.
"Hopefully, as the warmer weather progresses we may see more regions in similar yellow or green levels of restrictions which will permit mini schedules within divisions of 4 teams in compliance with those restriction levels," said Mathon.
