Nominees sought for human rights hall of fame

Jan.19, 2004
The 16th annual Evening of Applause for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination will be held March 24 at the Ecole Secondaire Algonquin auditorium.

Someone will be inducted to the Nipissing District Human Rights Hall of Fame that evening, and the organizing committee is seeking nominations from the public.

Photos of the hall of fame members are prominently displayed outside the library at Canadore College and Nipissing University.

Hall of fame members are Maurice Switzer, Barbara Minogue, Capt. Ed Smith, Geniza Ortega, Don Jacobs, André and Anne Marie Dupuis, Dr. Rod Johnston, André Corbeil, Mariela Karpecki, Violet “Ma” Woodward, Marie Marchand, Rita Sullivan, Judi Brewer, George Wallace, Dr. Glenda Simms and Rev. Jim Sinclair.

These are all people who have been or still are leaders in human rights issues either locally or internationally.

Anyone who would like to nominate someone as this year’s inductee is invited to contact Susan Church at [email protected] or at 476-0874, extension 211.
