Ontario is helping Northern Ontario entrepreneurs build a more diverse northern economy while creating more than 200 jobs.
Through the province’s Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), 17 northern businesses are expanding their operations by constructing new facilities, purchasing new equipment and adding new product lines.
Investing in Northern Ontario communities is an important part of the McGuinty government’s Growth Plan for Northern Ontario. A strong northern economy creates local jobs and protects the services that mean the most to families – health care and education.
“In 2005, we refocused the NOHFC to support job creation in Northern Ontario. Today’s investments are creating employment opportunities, growing businesses and further diversifying the northern economy. Supporting these entrepreneurs as they expand their businesses is helping ensure future prosperity for our region."
— Rick Bartolucci, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and chair of the NOHFC
“The global economy is increasingly competitive and Ontario businesses need to be innovative. I am very pleased that the NOHFC is helping northern enterprises grow to compete in today’s marketplace.”
— Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development and Innovation
- The NOHFC is supporting these projects through its Enterprises North Job Creation program.
- Since its introduction, the Enterprises North Job Creation Program has invested more than $153 million in approximately 300 business expansions.
