Good news on the COVID scene today.

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit didn't report any new cases in its afternoon update.

The count remains at 186 with five active cases. Three are isolating at home and two are hospitalized.

Three of the five contracted the virus through travel.

Meanwhile, there have been 235 new cases reported to the Simcoe-Muskoka health unit for the current week. There were 447 new cases reported to the health unit last week (week of January 10th), lower than the 495 cases reported for the week of January 3rd.

Also, although no vaccine is yet available in our area, there have been more than 14,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine administered in Simcoe Muskoka, mainly to health care workers in local hospitals, long-term care, and retirement homes. This includes 927 individuals that have received both of the required doses of the vaccine. In addition, 2,845 (89 per cent) long-term care residents have received their first dose.
