Three Nipissing Township hunters were fined a total of $7,500 for hunting violations under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act.

Robert Hearn of Cobalt pleaded guilty to two counts of unlawfully possessing deer, one count of unlawfully transporting deer and one count of hunting deer without a licence.

He was fined $3,500 and received a six-year hunting licence suspension.

Daniel Dufresne of Nipissing pleaded guilty to three counts of unlawfully possessing deer, two counts of failing to affix a game seal to deer and one count of hunting deer without a licence.

Dufresne was fined $2,000 and received a three-year hunting licence suspension.

Brian Knox of Callander pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to affix a game seal to a deer, one count of hunting deer without a licence and one count of having a loaded firearm on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). Knox was fined $2,000 and received a three-year hunting licence suspension.

Court heard that on November 8, 2013, a conservation officer inspected the trio’s hunting camp and found one untagged deer hanging and another untagged deer in an ATV trailer. The ATV’s passenger had a loaded rifle.

Further investigation revealed a third deer had been shot, dressed, deboned and stored without a seal in a freezer at Dufresne’s residence.

Justice of the Peace Michel Moreau heard the cases in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay, on March 19, 2014.
