Nine new COVID cases in last three days, 3 in Nipissing District

The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit is reporting nine new cases with eight over the weekend and one today.

Three are in the North Bay District and six in Parry Sound District.

It brings to 388 the number since the pandemic began.

There are now 33 active cases, but just five in the North Bay District.

On the vaccination front, 49,778 people have at least one dose and that's 46 per cent of the over 18 population. 

Meanwhile, the region's Chief Medical Officer is trying to stay optimistic about the possibility of children and teens in the region returning to in-class learning before the end of this school year.

The Timiskaming Health Unit reports11 active cases.

Dr. Glenn Corneil, Acting Medical Officer of Health for the Timiskaming Health Unit, also declared the end of the outbreak of COVID-19 at Young-Davidson Mine in Matachewan.

The Sudbury Health Unit reports seven new cases today. There are 80 active cases. Since the PHSD began tracking COVID-19 cases just over 14 months ago, there have been 2018 total COVID-19 cases confirmed locally. PHSD also said 1,938 of those cases have now been resolved.  

The Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit reports 146 new cases and 939 are active. It also says 232 people have died.

Meanwhile, Ontario is considering extending a stay-at-home order set to expire next week.

The move would keep thousands of businesses closed and outdoor recreational facilities shut, despite critics saying the latter would help boost deteriorating mental health among residents.
