Former North Bay Battalion star Nick Paul has inked a one-year, two-way contract with the Ottawa Senators, the club announced today.

The 23-year-old spent the majority of last season with the AHL's Belleville Senators, scoring 14 goals and adding 13 assists for 27 points in 54 games.

Paul was recalled to Ottawa on three separate occasions, scoring one goal in 11 NHL games.

The Mississauga native had a great final season with the Battalion as he potted 37 goals and won a gold medal with Team Canada at the World Juniors during the 2014-15 season.

Paul was originally drafted by the Dallas Stars in the 4th round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft but his rights were traded in July of 2014 as he was part of a trade that sent Jason Spezza to Dallas.

As a 20-year-old, Paul joined the Senators in the winter of 2015 scoring two goals and adding three assists in 24 games, but since then has spent most of his time playing in the American Hockey League.

He hopes to see more time up with the Senators this season as the contract will carry a value of $650,000 in the National Hockey League and $80,000 in the American Hockey League.
