Teammate Mark McMorris, who also won a bronze medal in the slopestyle event is the favourite in the big air event.

The 22-year-old, recently overcame an injury that could have possibly eliminated his chance of even competing at the Winter Games.

It’s the first time the big air event has been held at the Olympics.

Unlike the slopestyle event this big air event is about one big, spectacular jump.

The first qualifying heat 8 p.m. tonight.  The second qualifying heat will take place at 10:20 p.m.

If Nicholson makes the final, he would jump for gold on Saturday, February 24th.

It has been somewhat of a golden Winter Games for Nicholson as his girlfriend, American snowboarder Jamie Anderson has captured a a gold medal in women’s slopestyle.

“I am so so happy for you,” stated Nicholson via Instagram last week after she received her gold medal.
