The case of a North Bay man facing 15 charges in relation to complaints made about a local real estate development will next come before the court March 9.

Counsel for Renzo Silveri, a local businessman facing seven counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of theft over $5,000, one count of criminal breach of trust and five counts of falsifying books and documents, spoke on his behalf briefly before the virtual Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay, Tuesday.

All charges spoken to in court stem from Silveri's involvement in the development of Premier Village by the Lake and were laid by the Ontario Provincial Police in June 2020.

His lawyers said following the laying of the charges in June, Silveri is the "victim of a coup," as "a small group of people highjacked the [condo] board and its operations," for Premier Village.

Silveri, in a written statement from last June said, "These charges have rocked my family to the core; they are groundless and hurtful. I will be completely exonerated. I ask the community to reserve judgment and not take at face value all that is rumoured about these charges."

In a separate, non-criminal hearing, Silveri received a fine of $25,000 from the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario in October after a finding of professional misconduct by a disciplinary committee relating to his involvement in the Premier Road condominium corporation.
