North Bay resident David Thompson will try his political fortunes again.

Thompson has just announced he is running for North Bay city council in the Nov. 10 municipal election.

He had run for a council seat three years ago, finishing in twelfth spot.

There are now 25 people running for North Bay's 10 council positions. Four people are running for mayor.

The filing period closed Monday.
Here is Thompson's news release:

Three years have passed and again, there is a need to unite the focus of our City Council. While there were changes in the last election, they were not significant enough to alter the dangerous direction of our City’s future.

“That is why I have filed my nomination papers to let my name stand again for one of the ten council seats in the November 10th election,” announced David Thompson, 41, married father of two.

While some people say that North Bay is better off then other Northern Ontario communities, “that is not good enough,” claims Thompson.

“With a global and a competitive economy, we need to be the best that we can be and more,” Thompson re-iterated.

“We, as Councilors, must be able to provide good government to our citizens. The people expect their water to be clean, that their garbage is picked up, their streets are safe, that their roads are in good condition and that City Hall is always accountable. We first must be very capable of doing and sustaining the basic services before we attempt any new projects, ” stated Thompson, a Corporate Training Account Manager.

“While our new Mayor will re-vitalize and sell our City’s potential, the make-up of the next council must follow a similar path by increasing commercial and industrial development. We have to grow out of debt and simply not rely on the old spend, blame, and tax approach,” Thompson said.

“ One of the main reasons I recently changed careers from Commercial Real Estate was because there was not enough growth in our City,” commented Thompson.

“But simply being a pro-business Council does not reflect the true make up of our City. What I bring to a new council is a balance between business and social responsibilities,” Thompson said.

“I have the experience of sitting on several social agency boards that require sensitivity and importance while being an active member in the business community,” commented Thompson.

“Three years ago, I was honored to have finished 12th and eventually lose a 9-2 council vote to fill the vacancy left by Al McDonald being elected as our M.P.P. On Nov. 10th, I hope that I become part of the new direction," Thompson said.

"I believe that next Council will initiate and complete some exciting ventures, and I want to contribute to that vision."
