A pair of local property owners are looking to develop the former Drive-in location off of Trout Lake Road in North Bay.

Geoff Richardson and his brother Tom, are local property owners who are initiating the project on the six-acre vacant lot next to Tim Horton's.

"The first phase will consist of 134 senior tailored apartments, with beautiful amenities like a bistro, lounge, spa on the ground floor," stated Geoff Richardson.

"The second phase will help shape the senior's community, with townhouses and low rise buildings, while boasting beautiful gardens and outdoor green space."

Richardson explains that the project called "North Bay Renaissance" will be a 55+ community, not a retirement home.

"Tenants do not have to use the services if they do not want to. In other places that means you have to be there at 9, 12, and 5 p.m. in order to eat and you have no choice to pay for those services," said Richardson.

Richardson not only looking for future tenants, he is also looking at adding some more investors.

"We are looking for investors who are interested in getting us progressed in the project," he said.

"Our biggest goal right now is to get site plan approval. We have got a couple of steps between that; the architect is finishing up his drawings. The pre-consultation with the city went very well so it is basically getting the soft cost prepared and paid for and then, at that point, we will achieve site plan approval and then we will be able to entertain construction financing."

Richardson says they plan to host a seminar at the end of the month in person and virtually.

"Who better than the people of North Bay to fund something my parents would maybe want to move into one day," he said.
