A new pub and restaurant opened recently in the core of Downtown North Bay.

The Block Public House is located in the 100 block of Main Street West in North Bay and had its grand opening on March 3.

"The Block is now open! Come on in, take a load off, and try one of our excellent hand-crafted cocktails while enjoying one of our delicious farm-to-table entrees," the Block Public House stated via social media.

Al McDonald, North Bay's former Mayor, was one of the attendees on opening night. He says the restaurant brings with it a "Big City Vibe."

"The atmosphere, the buzz, the great food and wonderful wine was the talk," said McDonald via social media about the opening.

The building has been under renovation since 2020 and was originally the location of CD Hardware, located on the Cochrane-Dunlop Block which opened in downtown North Bay back in 1911. The historical building received significant damage in a fire back in 2012.

"A complete restoration of the entire front of the building began in January 2020 and today the building boasts beautiful post and beam office space on the top floors and modern yet historical homage gastropub on the main floor," the Block Public House website stated.

The new restaurant will not be taking reservations until March 20.
