New Police Board appointee will be keeping an eye on costs

'I know some of the challenges that municipalities face across the province with regards to their policing costs'
2015 10 20 Bain, mac lb

The newest member of the North Bay Police Services Board, Councillor Mac Bain, says he has no prior agenda, but wants to make sure that "the citizens of North Bay are being served by the Police Services Board and the police department and looking forward to learning everything that they do."

But the veteran councillor expects there will be challenges.

"With my experience at FONOM (Federation Of Northern Ontario Municipalities) and AMO (Association of Municipalities of Ontario) I know some of the challenges that municipalities face across the province with regards to their policing costs and I've expressed those challenges over the years for the police department in North Bay and I'm looking forward to having a better appreciation exactly for what drives the cost of the police department and how integral the police service is in the social fabric of North Bay."

Bain says he's wanted to be on the police board for some time.

"I honestly thought I would never be there because usually, it's people that finish higher in the polls than I ever anticipate being at."

Bain succeeds Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette who resigned citing scheduling conflicts.
