New Item on Agenda for MP Rota

Nipissing-Timiskaming MP, Anthony Rota, added the case of former North Bay Paediatrician Chikmaglur Mohan to his agenda of concerns for this week's Liberal Caucus meeting in Regina.

Rota, who had been in the northern part of the riding when Mohan was apprehended, had not been briefed on the specifics of the incident. However, after learning that Mohan had forged documents and was then able to slip back into Canada, left the MP troubled.

"This is definitely a case that raises concern. No question it is open for discussion, while this is an individual case it does raise concern, and I will be bringing this up at the Global Affairs Caucus meeting.”

“I will also be speaking with Anne McLellan to put some pressure on to find out what happened, because I have concerns.”

The Global Affairs Caucus was already on his agenda and not born out of the Mohan incident but out of an individual interest for riding development.

“Foreign affairs and defence are areas that I have spent quite a bit of time on, particularly I have an interest to developing ties internationally to develop the riding.”

Rota says the Liberal Caucus is an opportunity for the party to get together twice a year to look at where they have been, where they are at, and where they need to go during the term.

“It is my chance to put my concerns for my riding on the table, and to make sure that our concerns are heard and that they are represented in the long term policies.”

Rota also plans to attend all the caucus meetings that address vital matters to the riding such as forestry.

“With the Americans ignoring the NAFTA ruling, we need to know what the next step is going to be, and how are we going to come to the aid of the forestry industry.”

“I want to look at the economic sustainability and development of my portfolio for Nipissing-Timiskaming inparticular at the Economic Development Caucus.”

Rota said in order to address his issues for the riding he is prepared to attend all possible caucus meetings.

He cautions that Caucus meetings are in-camera but will keep BayToday posted with news or any changes he can make public.
