New family bicycle club gearing up

All children must be accompanied by an adult who ensures their child comes prepared with a helmet and a bike in working order, including a bell and functional brakes.

Several local families will be gearing up their bikes and taking to the trails of North Bay and surrounding area this summer.

The Gearing Up Family Cycling Club, a 13-week bike ride series, aims to get more families riding together on the routes in and around North Bay says a news release from the group.

Discovery Routes Trails Organization in partnership with the Cycling Advocates of Nipissing says the club is free for all families to join and will kick start the season with a bike rodeo on June 4th at 10 a.m. in Parking Lot #9 of Nipissing University/Canadore College.

The event will include bicycle safety skills training, basic bike maintenance, snacks, refreshments, and participation prizes courtesy of Cheapskates, Gateway Home Hardware, Cycleworks, and Lefebvre’s Source for Adventure.

Participants can complete a registration form on site at the bike rodeo on June 4th or online anytime at discoveryroutes.ca/gearingup.

All children must be accompanied by an adult who ensures their child comes prepared with a helmet and a bike in working order, including a bell and functional brakes.

Gearing Up rides following the rodeo will take place alternating Saturdays at 10 a.m. and Wednesdays at 6 p.m. over the course of the summer. The ride details are posted on the Discovery Routes website and include both organized trail riding and mountain biking opportunities.
