Neighbourhood Clean-Up Challenge poised to break last year's record

'We have already received an unbelievable number of orders for our litter bags, and our social media tags are brimming with photos and stories of the many clean-up efforts that are already underway'

Last year North Bay citizens collectively removed over 3,000 bags of litter, and this year Hariett Madigan, Chair of Clean, Green, Beautiful believes that record will be trashed.

Madigan announced the launch of the 2021 Neighbourhood Clean-Up Challenge this morning.

“We have already received an unbelievable number of orders for our litter bags, and our social media tags are brimming with photos and stories of the many clean-up efforts that are already underway.”

As in the past, the 2021 kick-off of the Neighbourhood Clean-Up Challenge coincides with Earth Days April 22-25 and while Earth Days are for four days only, the Neighbourhood Clean-Up Challenge will run until November.

Citizens wishing to participate can go here to register, order bags and learn how to post pictures of their clean-up efforts.

“In addition to the amazing support from North Bay’s citizens, we have been overwhelmed by the number of companies and organizations who have stepped up to sponsor this year’s efforts," added Madigan.

Over 26 organizations have signed on to help, and Miller Waste will pick up filled bags from the curb at no charge.

Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay exists to foster stewardship of the land, water, and community with a focus on raising civic pride and enhancing the beauty of our whole city.

The Neighbourhood Clean Up Challenge is only one of many initiatives being undertaken, the most noteworthy being the City’s upcoming submission for Communities in Bloom in 2022.
