Minister of Northern Development and Mines, Rick Bartolucci, announced today he is calling it a day in provincial politics. The announcement of his retirement came today as he resigned from cabinet.
Bartolucci will stay on as MPP in his home riding in Sudbury until the end of the current term but will not seek re-election.
He has had a long political career that began as a Sudbury alderman and regional councillor from 1979 to 1982 and again from 1985 to 1991, then he was elected MPP for Sudbury in the Ontario legislature in the 1995 by defeating New Democratic Party incumbent Sharon Murdock. He has held the title of cabinet minister for three posts in the McGuinty Government since the Liberals came to power in 2003.
Meanwhile, Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli issued the following statement on today’s announcement from Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci:
"I want to congratulate Minister Bartolucci on his retirement from cabinet. I look forward to meeting with the new Minister of Northern Development and Mines at the earliest opportunity to discuss the future of Ontario Northland and other issues vital to Nipissing and Northern Ontario."
