Jay Aspin, Member of Parliament for Nipissing-Timiskaming, today announced funding for the @Discovery North Bay Museum on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Heritage and Official Languages. This support will ensure the Museum collections and archives are preserved for the future and more accessible to staff and researchers.

“North Bay and the railways were critical in helping Canada become a nation by linking the east and south with the North and West,” said MP Aspin. “This funding will help the Discovery Centre preserve our community’s and our country’s heritage and history for generations of Canadians to come.”

The $20,500 for Heritage North Bay’s Collections Management Modernization project will allow the museum to relocate and upgrade its collection and archive storage to meet professional standards and ensure the management and integrity of museum artefacts and the regionally significant Ontario Northland Railway Archives.

“This funding will help protect and preserve the history of North Bay,” said Gordan Rennie, Chair of Heritage North Bay. “Without the support of MP Jay Aspin, and the Government of Canada, we would not be able to move ahead with this vital project”.

The Government of Canada, through the Museums Assistance Program, will provide 50% of the cost of the project. This program provides funding to Canadian museums and related institutions for projects that foster excellence in museum activities and that facilitate access to the treasures of our collective heritage.
