Multiple suspects charged in connection with McIntyre St. assault. Special Investigations unit called in

During the arrest of this unrelated person, they sustained an injury that caused the NBPS to contact the Special Investigations Unit

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in after multiple arrests by North Bay police yesterday in the downtown area.

The Unit is notified when police officers are involved in incidents where someone has been seriously injured.

In a news release this morning, police say that as a result of yesterday's investigation it has been determined that a 41-year-old man assaulted a woman known to him.

He has been charged with:

  • Aggravated assault (Domestic);
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Fentanyl (purp); and
  • Two counts of possession of methamphetamine.

The NBPS says it will not be releasing the identity of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.

During the investigation, the North Bay Police Service had two scenes secured, both at 447 Main Street East and 488 McIntyre Street East, in relation to the same incident.

At approximately 5 p.m. yesterday, "two individuals were seen removing a ladder from a neighbouring residence of one of the secured residences," says Sgt. Jody DeHaas "These two individuals then attended the rear of the residence and entered the residence via a second-floor window. These individuals were then seen leaving the residence and a foot chase with uniformed officers ensued."

As a result of this occurrence two men have been charged:

Ryan Plausteiner, 33 of North Bay with:

  • Theft under $5,000;
  • Break and enter;
  • Attempt to obstruct justice; and
  • Trafficking in methamphetamine

Brian R. Kelly, 26 of North Bay with

  • Theft under $5,000;
  • Break and enter; and
  • Attempt to obstruct justice.

DeHaas says during the arrest of the above two individuals, a third unrelated individual became involved.

"During the arrest of this unrelated person, they sustained an injury that caused the NBPS to contact the Special Investigation Unit. As a result, the Ontario Special Investigations Unit has invoked their mandate.

"Any information concerning with respect to their investigation will be subject of media releases made by the SIU. The investigation into the occurrence on August 20, 2019, is continuing resulting in no media interviews until the investigation is completed."

Yesterday North Bay police reported that there were two victims who suffered non-life threatening injuries caused by puncture wounds at 448 McIntyre St. E. after an assault with a weapon.

According to DeHaas, the incident happened shortly before 4 a.m. Tuesday and was a targeted attack with no threat to public safety.
