UPDATE: Streets re-opened (Motorcycle accident closes McIntyre St., three in hospital)

The man and woman were on McIntyre, but were stopped on a green light apparently asking for directions

A motorcycle-van collision has closed the 600 block of McIntyre St. E., and John to Main St., and sent two riders and the van driver to the hospital with undetermined injuries, although the bike driver was up walking after the accident. The female passenger appeared more seriously injured.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of John and McIntyre.

Traffic is backed up from the overpass and is being redirected up John St.

Witness Kenny Anderson, Manager of The Station Tap House restaurant across from where the accident happened, told BayToday that the man and woman on the motorcycle were in the centre lane of McIntyre, but were stopped on a green light apparently asking for directions.

Anderson says other motorists were sounding their horns, and so the motorcycle accelerated across the intersection, but by this time the light had changed to red and the bike was struck broadside by a van that was crossing the intersection on the green. The female passenger struck a light pole.

An employee of the restaurant ran for a first aid kit, while Anderson called 911.

The van driver appeared uninjured.

Police, as well as two ambulances and two fire engines, responded to the scene.
