Most hunters inspected during the opening week of the gun season for deer in the Northeast Region were obeying Ontario’s hunting regulations says a news release from the MNRF.

Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers conducted an enforcement blitz between November 2 and 8, in the North Bay, Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie areas. Officers were checking for compliance with hunting regulations and paying special attention to safety while hunting.

Officers inspected more than 540 hunters throughout the week.

They laid 26 charges, issued 39 warnings and seized illegally harvested wildlife.

Charges were laid for:

  • careless hunting
  • carrying loaded firearms in vehicles and vessels
  • failing to wear a helmet while on an all-terrain vehicle
  • liquor-related violations
