Moe-Ze-On-Inn demolished. What's next?

'It’s council's decision if they are going to rezone that particular area or not but until they identify some sites and actually tell the community what it is they are proposing it’s council's decision if they are going to rezone that particular area or not we are kind of on a wait and see'

The last timbers came crashing down today as demolition work wraps up at the former strip club.

The material will now be sorted and taken to the North Bay dump.

Now the question is, after rezoning the property and paying almost $90,000 to have the building torn down, what will happen to the city owned land now the casino developer has said it doesn't want to build there?

Mayor Al McDonald says the statement from the Gateway group was news to him.

"I learned through the media that it was not their preferred sites. If they want to look at another site they have to go through a re-zoning just like any other business would and that is a process - it’s four to eight months to go through. It’s a public process, they have statutory regulations that have to be done just like any other business but at the end of the day they can choose other sites but it’s council's decision if they are going to rezone that particular area or not but until they identify some sites and actually tell the community what it is they are proposing, we are kind of on a wait and see and we have to be patient and respect that. They have to do their due diligence."

Sources say the preferred site is on the old Kenroc site at the north end of the waterfront next to a new hotel that has just been built. That hotel, Homewood Suites by Hilton, is scheduled to officially open Thursday.
