Minister of Education Laurel Broten released the following statement today with regards to tentative agreements with a number of school boards including the Near North board:

"Following an initial review of the tentative agreements negotiated between Ottawa Carleton, Durham, Simcoe County, Lakehead, Kawartha Pine Ridge, and the Near North district schools boards and OSSTF teacher locals, I am pleased to say that they are workable.

I encourage these tentative agreements to be taken to ratification votes by OSSTF local teachers so that we can take the next step forward to approve them.

Ratification of the tentative agreement between Upper Grand District School Board and OSSTF teachers further illustrates that local agreements are possible when everyone works together to find solutions that put students first. Through ratification of their agreement, OSSTF teachers in Upper Grand and their school board found a pathway forward that prioritizes full-day kindergarten, small class sizes, and teaching jobs.

At this point, my ministry has reviewed and deemed workable all of the tentative agreements that have been submitted.”
