Environment Canada also warns road conditions can be poor in some areas as a special weather statement has been issued for the city

The City of North Bay is asking folks to avoid using outdoor rinks for a bit.

"The mild weather and rain has forced the City to close its outdoor rinks due to poor conditions," says a city spokesperson.

North Bay is currently under an Environment Canada weather advisory for freezing rain and, as temperatures hover just under freezing, outdoor rinks are soft and somewhat slushy.

A special weather statement is in effect for:

  • North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
  • West Nipissing - French River

"Precipitation has been late to materialize across Northeastern Ontario," says Environment Canada. "However, snow or freezing drizzle are expected begin early this (Tuesday) afternoon which could be mixed with freezing rain."

"Precipitation is expected to change to straight snow this evening."

Outdoor ice rink conditions are poor and, warns Environment Canada, road conditions are also poor.

"Untreated roads may become slippery. A freezing rain warning is in effect for much of Eastern Ontario."
